# FixMyPTO > FixMyPTO (https://fixmypto.com/) is a free PTO optimizer. It places paid time off next to weekends and public holidays so each day of leave becomes a longer break. No account; the plan is calculated in the browser. Last updated: 2026-10-11. Publisher: A4IT.BE (Belgium). ## What it does - Input: country, planning year, number of PTO days, a strategy, region, company days off, weekly days off. - Output: a list of breaks with the exact working days to book, total days off, a year calendar, an iCal (.ics) export for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook, a printable plan and an out-of-office message per break. The plan can be edited on the page afterwards (book or free any working day). - Coverage: 21 countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) and more than 150 states, cantons, provinces and regions. - Holiday data: Nager.Date public holiday API, public holidays only. ## How the optimizer works - Every day is either free (weekly day off, public holiday, company day) or a working day. PTO is only ever placed on working days. - A break is a run of consecutive days off: the PTO days plus every free day touching them. Break length counts all of those days. - Dynamic programming selects the set of breaks with the most total days off within the PTO budget. - Every break contains at least one weekend day. PTO is never spent on a loose mid-week run. - Among plans with equal days off, the one using fewer PTO days wins. - The whole PTO budget is planned: PTO that does not fit the strategy goes into extra long weekends and then into extra breaks of any length next to a weekend, labelled as such. Days stay unplanned only when no working day is left to book. - Focus months (optional): with "Prefer these months" the chosen months are planned first with the whole budget and PTO that does not fit goes to the rest of the year; with "Only these months" PTO is booked in those months alone and stays unplanned only when they have no working day left. A break belongs to a month when its PTO days fall in it; the weekend or holiday around it may lie in the next month. ## Strategies (break length in calendar days, minimum gap between breaks) - Balanced mix: 3-15 days, 21 days apart. - Long weekends: 3-4 days, 7 days apart. - Mini breaks: 5-6 days, 14 days apart. - Week-long breaks: 7-9 days, 21 days apart. - Extended vacations: 10-15 days, 30 days apart. ## Worked example: 20 PTO days, Belgium, 2027 (national holidays, Saturday and Sunday weekend) - Balanced mix: 44 days off in 5 breaks. - Long weekends: 65 days off in 20 breaks. - Mini breaks: 41 days off in 8 breaks. - Week-long breaks: 43 days off in 5 breaks. - Extended vacations: 40 days off in 4 breaks. - Single bridge: taking Friday 7 May 2027 after Ascension Thursday gives 4 days off for 1 PTO day. ## Use from an AI agent FixMyPTO has no server API: the plan is calculated in the page. In a browser with WebMCP (https://webmachinelearning.github.io/webmcp/) the page at https://fixmypto.com/ offers four tools: - `get_planner_options` (read-only): country codes, planning years, strategies and limits. - `get_public_holidays` (read-only): public holidays for `country`, `year` and an optional `region`. - `plan_pto`: `country`, `year`, `ptoDays`, optional `strategy` (`balanced`, `long-weekends`, `mini-breaks`, `week-long`, `extended`), `region`, `weekendDays`, `focusMonths` (month numbers 1-12) and `focusMode` (`prefer` or `only`). Shows the plan on the page and returns it as JSON with the dates to book. - `add_company_day`: `date` (YYYY-MM-DD, inside the planning year), optional `name`. The day counts as free in the next plan. Without WebMCP, use the planner on the page; every control has a label. ## Limits - Results are planning suggestions. Public holidays and leave rules must be confirmed with the employer. - Written in English; a language menu offers machine translation (Google Translate) into 30 other languages, loaded only when the visitor chooses one. - Planning horizon: the current year and the five after it. ## Links - [Planner](https://fixmypto.com/#planner) - [How it works](https://fixmypto.com/#how-it-works) - [FAQ](https://fixmypto.com/#faq) - [Full reference for AI assistants](https://fixmypto.com/llms-full.txt) - [The page as Markdown](https://fixmypto.com/index.md) - [Agent skill: plan PTO with FixMyPTO](https://fixmypto.com/.well-known/agent-skills/plan-pto/SKILL.md) - [Agent resource catalog](https://fixmypto.com/.well-known/ai-catalog.json)
